SCOTUS Rules in Favor of Trump’s Bigoted Agenda in Trump v. Hawaii

Today the United State Supreme Court upheld the Trump administration’s third Muslim ban on a 5-4 ruling in Trump v. Hawaii. The ban blocks immigrants and visitors from a number of Muslim-majority countries.

Iowa Citizen Action Network Executive Director Sue Dinsdale, One Iowa Executive Director Daniel Hoffman-Zinnel, Americans for Democratic Action Iowa Director Chris Schwartz, and Progress Iowa Executive Director Matt Sinovic issued the following joint statement on behalf of Why Courts Matter Iowa in response:

“Our country and constitution are far better than today’s Supreme Court ruling. Upholding this ban will be remembered as a dark day in the history of the court, and a leap backwards in the cause of religious freedom. While the court has failed, Iowans and Americans will and should continue to speak out. And we will continue to encourage the appointment of fair-minded constitutionalists to the bench with the hope of restoring our principles of freedom and equality.”
